The "I {Heart} Picnik!" Giveaway

Please Please Please tell me I'm not the only person out there who thinks Photoshop is just too damn hard to figure out. Please reassure me that there are other people out there who haven't found an extra 4 or 5 spare hours to learn how to do even the most basic functions.

Yes, I have seen all the wonderful photos that come from Photoshop. The actions are awesome! And, I'm sure once you learn how to use it, Photoshop can be a photographer's best friend. Folks have told me, "Yeah, it's complicated at first. But once you learn it, it's really cool."

I just like things simpler. Crazy me.

I started using Picnik after I heard about how awesome it was from the always incredible McMommy. Then I read about other people using it too, like the equally incredible MamaKat. Plus it's free. Me likey free. So I tried it and, whatta ya know? It was really simple to learn. The "actions" are built in - you don't have to pay for them or download them or anything.

But I got so sucked into loving Picnik that I decided to buy a premium membership for $24.95. That gives me a whole year of crazy fantastic editing. Dudes, that's like $2.08 a month. Seriously cheap.

Now, some people may say that Picnik is for hobbyists. That it isn't really for professionals. Well, that may be true. I'm not a professional so I can't say for sure. But as I've watched a lot of Photoshop tutorials online, I think, "Oh, I can do that in Picnik. What's the big diff?" Plus I don't need to learn a new program. Plus it's cheaper.

So, to show you what I mean, here is a picture of Violet that I took in the backyard:

Yes, she's pretty cute and the photo isn't too bad. A few shadows, a crumb on her lip, some goober in her eye (almost unnoticable).

And here is the same photo after I used Picnik:

Violet in the Backyard

And this one too:

Violet Backyard - B-W

And here's another one:

Violet Backyard - Polaroid

Here's a couple more Before & Afters, with Picnik:

Now you can have a premium membership to Picnik too! I am giving away a one-year premium membership to one of my fabulous readers! Here's how to enter (you'll get one entry for each):
1. Leave a comment, telling me if you use any photo editing program, and if you do, which one?
2. Tweet about the contest! Just copy and paste, then come back and leave a comment telling me you tweeted:
If You Like Awesome Photos @TexMama is giving away a @Picnik Premium Membership! http://bit.ly/bEzR1Q Your photos will thank you!
3. Like the Who Put Me In Charge Of These People??? facebook page
(and leave me a comment telling me you liked me. I mean, I know you already LIKE me, but now you FACEBOOK LIKE ME. Wanna go steady?)

The contest runs until 11:59pm on Saturday August 21.

Photoshop can kiss my grits. Thatisall.

(disclosure: no one paid me anything or gave me anything. I'm just going to fork out the money for this contest because I love you and because I've had such good karma with internet contests. It's my turn to pay it forward.)

I am so glad you said that about Photoshop. I can only resize with that product. I have tried and do not have the time to figure it out. I even bought a book! I love Picnick and use it along with Photobucket to load pictures into my blogs. Free is the best! clutzyk21556 at aol.com

That picture of your baby is adorable! Both of them, actually.

I am so glad you found a program that is meeting your needs without intense frustration. Seriously, if it's frustrating why would you force yourself to learn it?

Beautiful redo on the photos.

I'm a designer by night, so I can't hate on Photoshop, but I do love Picnik. It saves a lot of time for designers. Thanks for sharing your pictures. It's great to see the before & after. Thanks for the contest! Have a nice weekend!

I use Picnik free version but the upgrade would be awesome! I also like the Photoshop app on the iPhone :)

I have just started using the free version of Picnik and really like it. I've used photoshop before, but find it very complicated.

Jennifer said...

I have Photoshop (David got it for me as a gift) and I never use it because it is too freakin' complicated. I like Faststone because it is free and easy to use and you download it to your computer. I've used the free Picnik online and I like it too.

would LOVE love love to win this if it means I can make my photos look as great as yours!

I'm a big fan of Picnik as well! I occasionally need to use PhotoShop at work and it's a huge time suck since I don't feel confident with it yet.

Great giveaway! thanks!

I do like both Picnik and Photoshop, but because Picnik happens to be on the internet and free (for most settings) it's very convinient to those who can't afford photoshop or other photo-editing programs at all.
I honestly, as much as I can't even save up for a Premium account as well, I do enjoy Picnik for it's convinency and simplicity.
It's the same as photoshop but with benefits to others. :)

We Blogged about your contest which will post on Tuesday at Midnight because we love paintshop pro but Picnik seems like the whip and you mama seem to know how to handle those whips. (wink*wink) I tweeted and since I don't do facebook I'm leaving you the url and promo.

I liked you on Facebook! (this is redfriendalex from flickr!)

I also use picnik and it is simply amazing! It's so easy to tweak the little details. I agree that photoshop is much too complicated, I've tried, all I can manage is to brush in some paint.

Bridgett said...

Just as an aside, I use absolutely free GIMP. It doesn't do everything thta PS can do, but it is completely free and is updated and tweaked by people all the time...but it has a learning curve.

I use Picnik, but I think my year membership is about to run out and I'd love a free renewel!

I think I've looked at Picnik before, but this past weekend was the first time I really worked in it and OHMAHGAH! It has rocked my socks! It was sooo easy and worked sooo well! I kept finding myself trying to select "premium" options so I think I may need the upgrade ;-)

Kim Moldofsky said...

I use Picnik, but I'd love access to the premium features!

By the way, when you start a tweet with your own @ sign, only people who are following you will see it when someone else tweets that. When you want someone to tweet out to the grand public, don't make the tweet start with your @name. I changed the text to:

Want a free @Picnik Premium membership? Go enter @TexMama's giveaway! http://bit.ly/bEzR1Q Your photos will thank you!
